LEARNING FOR EARNING

Grades: 9-10 (students can take either or both semesters)

Prerequisite: None

Learning for Earning is a year course but students may enter at the start of the second semester. This course will introduce students to the skills necessary for getting a job, succeeding on the job, and on their own. Areas that will be covered include values, goals, decision making, money management, interviews, applications, appearance and grooming, communication, getting along with others, and health and wellness. The students will develop and run a business.

FOODS & NUTRITION

Grades: 10-12

Length: Year

Prerequisite: None

Foods & Nutrition is a year class emphasizing nutrition, fitness, healthy food choices, and wise food buying. Food preparation labs will occur. Limited to 12-16 students due to labs.

FABRIC ART

Grades: 10-12

Length: Semester

Prerequisite: None

Offered alternate years. Students will construct creations with fabric. Quilts, clothing, or crafts will be sewn. Costs are the responsibility of the student ($50 - $100 depending on projects).

HOUSING & HOME FURNISHINGS

Grades: 10-12

Length: Semester

Prerequisite: None

Offered alternate years. Housing & Home Furnishings is a one-semester course providing instruction in interior decorating, home financing and selection and home styles. Students will arrange for tours of homes in the community.

PARENTING

Grades: 10-12

Length: Year

Prerequisite: None

Parenting is a year class emphasizing characteristics necessary for developing good parenting skills. Students will study physical, emotional, social and mental development of children of all ages. Observations will be conducted on children of all ages.

FAMILY LIVING

Grade: 12

Length: Semester

Prerequisite: None

Family Living is a one-semester course in family relationships that examines personality, mate selection, pregnancy, STDs, family life and other related topics.

INDEPENDENT LIVING

Grade: 12

Length: Semester

Prerequisite: None

Independent Living is a consumer class focusing on the aspects of consumer behaviors, food choices, nutrition, housing, personal finances and appliances. The cost of one sewing project is a requirement of this one-semester class.
