GRADES, ACADEMIC RECOGNITION, ETC.

GRADING SCALE Boone Central High School uses a grading scale with grades recorded in percentages. These percentages translate to letter grades/4.0 scale as follows:

99-100= A+ =4.0

96-98= A =4.0

95= A- =3.8

94= A-= 3.6

93= B+ =3.4

92= B+ =3.2

88-91= B =3.0

87= B- =2.8

86 =B- =2.6

85 =C+ =2.4

84 =C+ =2.2

80-83= C= 2.0

79 =C- =1.8

78 =C- =1.6

77= D+= 1.4

76 =D+= 1.2

72-75= D= 1.0

71= D- =0.8

70= D- =0.6

INCOMPLETES Incompletes given the first, second, or third quarters must be removed within three weeks of the end of the quarter. Incompletes will be considered as failing until removed. No grades of incomplete will be given at the end of the fourth quarter unless approved by the counselor and the principal. Unremoved incompletes are considered failing with no credit awarded for the class. Teachers may extend the 3-week deadline if circumstances warrant an extension.

STUDENT RECORDS Pursuant to State law, access to student records is limited to the student, his/her parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, or school administrators. Confidential records may have more limited access. Written permission of the parent or guardian is required in order to access records to other parties. Records of disciplinary actions will be kept separate from a student‚s academic file and destroyed following graduation or continuous absence of three years.

CLASS STATUS No student shall be eligible for class status who does not have sufficient hours of credit at the beginning of the fall term. Students are classified as follows: at least 160 hours = Senior 110-159 hours = Junior 55-109 hours = Sophomore 54 hours or less = Freshman

HONOR ROLL The Honor Roll is published at the end of each quarter. To earn a place on the Honor Roll a full-time student must have a scholastic average of at least 94%, with no grade below 88%. Honorable Mention shall be awarded students who maintain a grade average of at least 88%, with no grade below 80%.

CLASS RANK *Albion Class of 2003 rank is determined by classifying courses into two categories: college prep and general. College prep courses are assigned a weighted value of 1.2 in calculating class rank. A maximum of six courses will be used in calculation of class rank. The six classes with the highest point value will be counted in the calculation. College prep courses include:

All other courses will be considered general courses for class ranking purposes. *Petersburg Class of 2003 rank will be calculated separately based on previous procedures. Boone Central Classes of 2004 and beyond will be determined by classifying courses into two categories: Weighted and general. Weighted courses are assigned a weighted value of 1.1 in calculating class rank and these classes are in bold print in the list of courses above. All classes will be used to calculate class rank.

PROGRESS REPORTS AND WEEKLY ELIGIBILITY LIST Grades are prepared at the end of each nine-week period and reports prepared for parents. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled at the end of the first and third quarters. Additional conference time should be scheduled with individual teachers as needed throughout the year. A list of students either failing or about to fail is prepared from reports submitted by teachers each Thursday, reflecting cumulative grade averages through that Wednesday. Eligibility lists are prepared weekly except for the first week of a new quarter. Students are ineligible for activity participation or going with the team or group (excluding graded activities) the following week if they are failing more than one class, failing one class and about to fail another or about to fail three classes. Eligibility weeks begin on Sunday and end on Saturday. Reports of pupil progress may be sent from teachers anytime that a teacher believes communication with parents is necessary.
