Career Planning

Students in grades 9-12 will participate in a variety of activities that will allow them to learn more about themselves and the choices they will be making for future educational goals and occupations.
FRESHMAN will complete an activity in the What Interests You? program and search the Career Clusters Program which will help them key into interests, work values and abilities, explore more than 250 job titles, look at their ideal job, and make plans for options after high scool.
SOPHOMORES will begin using the NCIS program which is an on-line program to continue building a portfolio of each student's interests, abilities, specific college majors, and cllege selections. Students will have student id numbers and pass words that they can use this program on the web whenever they wish. It can be used at home with parents or in the library at school. They will have the opportunity to complete the PLAN test sponsored by ACT if they wish. Students can also take the college entrance tests ASSET, ACT or SAT as they desire.
JUNIORS will continue with the NCIS program as the portfolio can be saved from year to year. Additional exploration to refine interest and occupations will continue. In addition, all juniors will complete the ASVAB aptitude battery to learn more about their abilities. They will also have the opportunity to complete the PSAT test sponsored by ETS if they wish. Students can also take the college entrance tests ASSET, ACT or SAT as they desire.
SENIORS will continue with the NCIS program using the remaining componets that build a resume, help narrow in the college choices and focus on specific occupations. They will participate in the Educational Planning Program to visit with college representative. They will continue to take the college entrance tests ASSET, ACT or SAT as they desire.
All students can us O*NET OnLine to search for occupations and match skills to occupations by going to O*NET.
