AMERICAN HISTORY

American History is a straightforward chronological history of the United States from 1865 to the present. One goal of the course is to help students develop knowledge of history along with cultural understanding. Another goal is to help students develop democratic understanding and civic values.
WORLD HISTORY
Grade: 11
Length: Year
Prerequisite: None
World History is required of all students and includes study of how the past has influenced modern events and the various contributions that many societies have had on the human spirit. Access to newspapers and news magazines is helpful, but not required. Research papers and projects may be assigned during the course of the year.
AMERICAN GOVERNMENT/MODERN PROBLEMS

Prerequisite: None
This course is a year course in which American Government and Modern Problems are incorporated to form a more balanced course. The historical foundation of our Constitution, civil rights, three branches, crime and punishment are studied. Along with this is the studying of the current status of the United States by tracing changes in society through the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. The students are required to attend four different government meetings throughout the year.
SOCIOLOGY

Sociology is a one-semester course that studies the behaviors of people as individuals in groups. The impact of family, religion, and sports on the individual is studied. Reasons for deviant behavior and crime are analyzed. A focus on death and dying is one unit.
GEOGRAPHY
Grades: 10-12
Length: Semester
Prerequisite: None
Geography is a one-semester course covering both physical and cultural geography. Map reading, geographic terms and learning of map locations are covered.
PSYCHOLOGY
Grades: 11-12

Prerequisite: None
Psychology is a one-semester college prep course that examines human behavior. Parts of the brain and their function in sensation, perception, thinking, memory, learning, and sleeping are analyzed. Personality, abnormal behavior, therapy, and developmental psychology are also studied. Students do various research and self-analysis projects.
ECONOMICS

Economics is a one-semester class. The class will cover several economic issues that influence all individuals. These issues include basic economic principles, the American business structure, measuring economic performance, GNP and fiscal policy, monetary policy, and international trade.
NEBRASKA HISTORY
Grades: 10-12
Length: Semester
Prerequisite: None
This one-semester course will cover Nebraska history from its pre-territorial era, territorial era and follow its growth from statehood to the present. Students will explore a broad range of topics from early people in the region to the effects of industrialization and the shift of the population to the eastern portion of the state. Students will also research local history with topics such as early influential citizens to the future of the area. A wide range of resources will be used such as the local museum and courthouse records.
