GENERAL INFORMATION

STUDENT PRIVACY Students who do not want their names given to recruiters (colleges and armed forces), photographers and other businesses or organizations must let the office know in the first week of school. At your request, your name will be removed from any student lists that are given out by the office.

DAILY SCHEDULE The school building is open at 7:30 for students eating breakfast. Students are not to be in the building prior to 7:30 unless they are under the direct supervision of a teacher for a special meeting or practice. Students are not to remain in the building after school unless they are under the direct supervision of a teacher for detention, a meeting or practice.

PLANNERS At the beginning of the school year, students are given a planner to record their assignments and use as their hallway pass. Students must have their planners with them at all times and failure to have a signed pass in the planner when in the hallway will result in a detention. Some teachers have chosen to give students grades based on how up to date and complete they are. The cost to replace a planner is $10.00.

LUNCH BREAK Students will eat lunch in two shifts from 11:31 - 12:01 and 12:24 - 12:54. While students are allowed to leave the school building during lunch, no students are allowed to drive, ride in, or sit in or on vehicles during lunchtime. Students who eat off campus should remember to dispose of their trash in the proper containers and observe standards of good conduct while off the campus. Please also remember to keep on the sidewalks and not cut across our neighbors!= lawns while walking to lunch. Students whose conduct is inappropriate during lunch will lose open campus privileges.

LUNCH PROGRAM Breakfast and lunch are federally funded programs. All meals are to be paid for in advance. Students are given a 4- digit number to be memorized. Money is placed into a family account. This money may be used to purchase breakfast, lunch, and seconds. It may not be used for a-la-carte purchases. No charging of meals will be allowed unless prior approval is given by the superintendent's office. Free and reduced priced meals are available to those who qualify. All food programs are subject to price changes due to inflation and federal subsidies.

MESSAGES, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND DAILY BULLETIN The daily bulletin is distributed to all classrooms during third period and contains school announcements of importance to students in general. Teachers read the announcements during third period. Copies are also posted on the bulletin board and on the web (http://albion.esu7.org/). Students are responsible for information published in the daily bulletin. Announcements of clubs and organizations must first have written approval of the sponsor before they will be included in the daily bulletin. Personal messages are not included in the daily bulletin. Students will not be called from class for telephone messages. Any time students' names are called over the intercom, they should immediately report to the principal's office.

SEVERE WEATHER DISMISSAL At times when weather is too severe for school to be held, school closing information will be broadcast over several area television and radio stations including: KLKN-TV Ch. 8 Lincoln, KHAS-TV Ch. 5 Hastings, NTV-TV Ch. 13 Kearney, KOLN-TV Ch. 10 Lincoln, WJAG/KEXL 780 AM/106.7 FM Norfolk, KZ 100, KZEN, KKOT, 100.3 FM Central City, KJSK/KLIR 90 AM/101.1 FM Columbus, and KNEN 94.7 FM Norfolk. When school is dismissed early because of severe weather, activity practices are cancelled. If the weather clears by evening, regularly scheduled events may be held.

SCHOOL VISITORS Parents are always welcome to visit school. Please call ahead so that we can arrange for an informative visit. Requests for friends to visit school are seldom granted as even in the most ideal circumstances they detract from the learning process. All visitors should enter the building through one of the following entrances: Elementary main entrance on west side, southwest high school entrance, or southeast high school entrance. Please check in at the office.

LOST AND FOUND Items that are found should be turned into the principal!=s office where the owner may claim them. Unclaimed items will periodically be turned over to a charitable organization for distribution to the needy.

CANDY, POP, AND FOOD These items are not to be brought to school to be consumed in the hallways or classrooms. Food items purchased in the lunchroom are to be eaten in the lunchroom. A maximum of two students at one time may check out of a study hall to use the pop machine. Time will be limited to 10 minutes. Pop is to be consumed while students are seated in the commons area. Pop and juice purchased from the machines before or after school are to be consumed in the commons area or removed from the building. The principal must grant special requests for pop or food items in the classroom.

BOOKS AND OTHER SCHOOL PROPERTY Textbooks, library materials, and other school property loaned for student use are to be returned in the same condition as when received less allowance for reasonable wear and tear. Students will be assessed replacement cost for lost or damaged schoolbooks or other property. Books, etc. are not be left in the hallways, stage area, or locker rooms.

STUDENT DRESS Dress should be modest and in good taste. An individual's dress, personal appearance and cleanliness, like his behavior, should reflect sensitivity to and a respect for others. The fact that a school will permit a wide variety in school clothes does not mean that all styles are equally appropriate. Clothing containing vulgar language, obscenities, suggestive or inappropriate subject matter is prohibited. A student's midriff will not be showing when standing in relaxed mode. All garments with spaghetti straps, single straps or no straps are not allowed unless an appropriate cover up is worn also. Violators will be disciplined. Hats, caps, or bandannas are not to be worn in the building either during school or during school activities. The final decision of the appropriateness of dress rests with the principal.

STUDENT LOCKERS Students are furnished lockers which remain the property of the school district. Students are held responsible for the care, cleanliness, and condition of their assigned lock and locker. Costs of repair or replacement can be assessed to students as warranted. Class funds may be used for general maintenance in the locker and locker area. Lockers are subject to routine, periodic checks for condition, cleanliness, and contraband. Food or liquids should never be stored in lockers. Valuables or money should never be brought to school and certainly never be kept in lockers.

DRIVING TO AND FROM SCHOOL Students who drive to school must complete a driving permit. Students who drive to and from school are to drive with extra caution while near the school grounds as many students are walking to and from school and are not always mindful of the traffic. Crossing guards are on duty on some of the busiest intersections near school to assist students with crossing the streets safely. Please obey the crossing guards and treat them with respect. Students should park on the east side of the building and on the boulevard as room permits. Cars are not to be moved during the school day without specific permission of the principal and under no circumstances are they to be used during the lunch hour. Lunchtime violations will lead to open campus privileges being taken away from drivers and riders for 60 days. Other violations will lead to detentions being assigned to drivers and riders. Continued violations can result in suspensions.

DRIVER EDUCATION State-Approved Driver Education is offered during the summer at Boone Central Schools with registration beginning in late February. The cost of the class during the 2001-2002 school year was $180. These fees are subject to change. The number of students who can be served is limited and enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis with resident students receiving priority. Refunds will only be given if there is someone on the waiting list to replace the cancellation and it occurs before the first class session.

SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION School buses, vans and school cars are to be kept clean and free of all trash and litter. Following each trip, students and sponsors are responsible for picking up any trash and checking for lost or misplaced items.

BUS/VAN CHECK OFF POLICY Participants are expected to ride home on the bus/van, but under unique circumstances participants may ride home from a game with their parent(s) or another faculty sponsor. In all cases when participants do not ride home on the bus/van, prior arrangements must be made by making a personal request to the activity director or the coach/sponsor in charge in writing and then signing the checkout sheet with the coach/sponsor at the activity. The sponsors/coaches believe it is desirable to keep the team or group together after the activity for unity and camaraderie are developed by being together in victory and defeat. Also, part of being a member of a team or group is commitment and part of that commitment includes the time spent together riding to and from activities. Please be aware of the sponsors/coaches' wishes when deciding to check your son or daughter off the bus/van and support them in their desire to help build team or group unity. The sponsors/coaches are also concerned with the safety of participants when not riding with parents or another faculty sponsor. If the student does not ride home with his/her parent(s) or another faculty sponsor any requests to do so will be denied in the future.

MEDIA CENTER SERVICES The media center is available for personal reading, research, and special study. Reference materials, periodicals, general reading material, a typewriter and computers are provided for the enrichment and support of regular class materials. The media specialist establishes which materials may be removed from the media center and due dates for their return. Students are to return all materials promptly as materials are limited and others are likely to be waiting for them to be returned. The media specialist also establishes a system of fines for late materials. Passes will be limited per study hall, according to available seating. The media center Macintosh lab is available for student use during the school day and has Internet capabilities. Use of computers or Internet for non-school purposes or other inappropriate uses will cause the student to lose access to those resources.

STUDY HALL Each student must enroll in at least seven classes, so most students will have a study hall. Study halls are established to provide quiet supervised study time. Students are to bring sufficient work to study hall. Students may check out to use the library or computer lab. A maximum of two students at one time may check out of study halls to use pop machine. Time will be limited to 10 minutes. Pop is to be consumed while students are seated in the commons area. Any student who checks out of the study hall to another area must check back in before the end of the period. Students on the weekly down list are not eligible to check out of study halls for any reason unless they have a pass in advance from a classroom teacher. No student will be allowed to check out during the first ten minutes of study hall unless special arrangements have been made between the two teachers and must be back before the bell ending the period rings.
