The Internet has a wide range of games and activities that help children develop skills that help them learn how to read. Each semester the students will be focusing on certain literacy skills and units. Below you will find links that corrospond to those skills. Please keep reviewing the skills your child worked on each nine weeks by going back to their favorite websites.
Your child will need help with these activities. What a great way to spend quality time with your child! Please remember that you should suppervise children anytime they are on the computer.

Letter Recognition
Alphabet Action: Click on a letter to hear it's name and see a picture.
Sesame Street's Letter of the Day: Cookie Monster can only eat the cookies with a certain letter on them. Children find the cookies and feed them to Cookie Monster.
ABC's at StarFall: This page takes you to a page with all the letters of the alphabet. Click on the letter you want to work on. Works on the letter name and the sound.
ABC Introduction: Introduces children to the letters of the alphabet.

Sound Recognition
ABC Game: Children pick the picture that starts with the given letter.
Clifford's Sound Match: Drag the pictures that begin with a designated sound to the box. Directions and pictures are read to the child.

Picture Match: Move pictures to the correct beginning letter box.

Visual Discrimination
Fruit Concentration: Children click on a card to reveal what is on the other side, then click on another card to find a match. If the two cards match, they disappear.
Bug Concentration: Children click on a card to reveal what is on the other side, then click on another card to find a match. If the two cards match, they disappear.
Sun and Moon Concentration: Children click on a card to reveal what is on the other side, then click on another card to find a match. If the two caards match, they disappear.

Alphabet Zoo: In this activity, animals emerge from a train in a zoo with a lowercase letter next to them. Children must click on the corrosponding uppercase letter in the zoo to move the animal to its proper habitat.
Clifford's Letters: Drag the words to the box that begins with the same letter. Directions and words are read to the child.

Fuzzy Lion Ears: Leona the Lion will give a word and a picture. Children must choose the missing letter to complete the word Leona gave.
Pounce: Students hear a C-V-C word and then click on the word they heard.

Upper and Lowercase Match: Find the matching squares.
ABC Gulp: Click on the frog and he will tell you what letter he wants to eat. When you click on the letter he wants, he zaps it up with his tounge!

ABC Order
ABC Cow: The cows have been eating the alphabet! Fill in the missing letters. This is a keyboard exercise. The mouse is not used to select the letter.

Bear Wear: Help bear get dressed by listening to the letter sound and selecting the shirt that matches the sound.

Drag and Drop Game: Drag the pictures to the correct word box. Great for kids learning to read!
Match C-V-C Words with Pictures: Students click on the correct C-V-C word that corresponds to the picture.

Rhyming
Gawain's Word: Students choose a beginning and ending sound. Two jousting contestants say the sounds as they come closer and closer together. See if your child can figure out the word before the two jousters collide!

Working with Words
Making Sentences: Children drag words into boxes to complete sentences. Sentences are written using pictures and high frequency words to increase success.
The Whirlyword Machine: Spin the letters on the machine. When the letters stop you must decide if the word given is a real word or not. Great for blending and reading nonsense words!
Clifford's Make a Word Game: Insert vowels into CVC words to make real words. The words are read back and added to the list. When all the possible words have been made, a message will pop up.
Word Blender: Help Wordblender by choosing the start and end sounds for each word.

Visual Discrimination
Star Words: This fun game works on high frequency words as well as visual discrimination! The spaceship gives you a word and you must put it in the right shape.
