Clarkson Red Devils D1 State Runner Up Article by Deb Nadrchal
Two touchdowns towards the end of the game gave a little hope to the mass of Clarkson fans at the November 15 game, but it just wasn't quite enough to pull out the win which was taken by the Elgin Pope John Crusaders. The final score ending the game, 39-30 with the Crusaders having a near perfect record for their season. Clarkson Devils can certainly be proud of their own season with ten wins and only two (three) losses. And as they walked off that field holding the trophy high, the red glow from the stands reflected the pride and thrill of being there to share the moment. It is quite an accomplishment for this team... the only one to date in Clarkson's history, to be good enough to have gone to the state games. Along with Devils endurance and their intimidating size, they held Elgin back from scoring a run-away. A couple great tackles by Konicek and Stoklasa, plus a few very impressive blocks, kept the other team from thinking this was going to be an easy win. It may have been that 68-yard touchdown by the Crusaders that won the game, but the Devils did a fabulous job keeping it together. Congrats team... you've made Clarkson proud... and... NICE TROPHY!!!!!!!
