About

Welcome to my website! I am very excited to be serving as the guidance counselor for High Plains  Community Schools.  As a school guidance counselor,  one of my jobs is to help students discover possible career interests.  Some of the best advice I can offer when choosing a career path is to do one of the following.  First, find some area you enjoy and search for career options in that area.  The second bit of advice, which is  probably even more important, is to discover what you hate to do and then don't go there.  This way you will have a better chance of success in finding a career you will enjoy. It's a nice feeling to go to work each day and not think of it as labor.

In true fashion to the above, I am a testimony that pursuing what you like works.  I grew up in Schuyler, NE and graduated in 1979.  I was active in many clubs with FHA, (FCCLA) and Journalism being my favorites. I attended Kearney State College, which is now UN-K. That's where I connected with my first experiences with the High Plains Community School area   One of my roommates was from Clarks and another college neighbor graduated from Silver Creek. I have some fond memories of the area.

After graduation, I taught Family and Consumer Science  and Journalism in Broken Bow for five years before I married my husband, Grant.  We live in McCool Junction with our two children.  Our daughter, Bailey, will be in sixth grade this year and our son, Gabe, will be in fifth grade. Grant serves as the principal in McCool Junction. In the  Summer he works as an aerial applicator spray pilot for Jim's Agri Air and Fisher Flying Service.  My husband also is a testimony for looking for jobs that interest you. From 1988-1997 I taught Family and Consumer Science in Geneva.  In the Summer of 1997 Jostens recruited me to work in the yearbook division which gave me the wonderful opportunity to travel the state of Nebraska to the tune of 60,000 miles a year. In June of 2002 I decided that while I was out in the road each day, I should just stop in Kearney on my way home a couple of nights a week to work on my master's degree.  A year and three hundred and thrity three days later I graduated with my Masters in Education.  I served two schools, McCool Junciton and Dorchester, as their half-time counselor before coming to High Plains Community Schools.

I hope that you will check this site often as I hope to continue to build it as the year progresses.
