Guidelines for the Interactive Student Notebook History I, World History, and History II/Government

Purpose: Students in Mrs. Policky's history classes will be developing an interactive notebook during the course of the semester. This notebook will enable you to be a creative, independent thinker and writer. The interative notebook will also be used to organize your notes as well as other activities where you are asked to express your own ideas and process information presented in this class.

Organization: The interactive notebook in this class will have a "left side, right side" orientation to help you record, organize and process new information. Much of your class work and homework will be done in this interactive notebook. The notebooks will be organized this way:

Left Side: (Student Process New Ideas) Reorganize new information in creative formats, express opinions and feelings, explore new ideas, homework, and personal responses.

Right Side: (Teacher Provides New Information) Class notes, reading notes, discussion notes, handouts with new information.

Materials: Binder or Spiral Notebooks (college rule), Blue or Black ink pens, Highlighter, Gluestick, and a Folder (for handouts and assignments not done in the notebook).

Grading: Notebooks will be collected and graded about every three week, except at the beginnings of the year, when they will be graded on thoroughness, quality, organization, and visual appeal (neatness). Points will be subtracted for missing or incomplete notes, class work or homework.

Absences: If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get your notes, class work, or homework caught up.
