Classroom Activities

Home Calendar About

There are many activities in the Resource Room.  Listed below are a few of the things most students are required to do:

Green Folders:
Green folders are the academic folders.  When a student comes to take a test or quiz in the resource room and the student does not finish, then the test of quiz is placed in the green folder and the student is to write the test or quiz on the board.  This way students and teachers have a visual reminder of what needs to be done, and all incomplete work is always in the green folder.
Also in the academic folder are green sheets for Weekly Grades and Quarter and Semester Grades (click on the titles to see a sample).  Every Monday students are to get on Power School and record their grades for each class on the Weekly Grades sheets.  Students are then to print grade sheets for each class.  They are to highlight in pink all missing grades and record those on the board.  They are to highlight in yellow all tests and quizzes given or graded during a specific time frame.  Students are then paid according to the Incentive Program, which is recorded on the Orange Sheets in their folder.

Incentive Program:
There are various things a student can do to earn an income in the resource room.  The Money System outlines various rewards.  Students are responsible for keeping their accounts updated and correct.  On designated days an auction will be held for various food items.  Students can only use the money that is in their account at the time.

Red Folders:
Red Folders are the Math folders.  All students in grades 7-12 are required to do the weekly Otter Creek timed tests.  This is a timed test with 80 basic Multiplication facts (for the first semester) and Division facts (for the second semester).  When a student correctly answers all 80 facts in the given time frame for three consecutive weeks, then he/she is excused from the rest of the tests for that semester.
The same rules apply in the resource room.  However, in the resource room, if a student correctly answers fewer than 70 facts on the first two weekly tests, then he/she is required to do the Otter Creek Rockets.  These are short-timed tests, which methodically introduce math facts in an effort to increase speed recall of all basic facts.  The student is to do flashcards and work through the Rockets as time allows during his/her resource period.  Once the student correctly answers 70 or more facts correct on the weekly Otter Creek timed tests for three consecutive weeks, then he/she is exempt from doing the Otter Creek Rockets.
Student progress is shared through Power School.  Click here to see directions on how to view this information.

Resource Room Challenges:
For fun students can also participate in the Resource Room Challenge during their study hall.  Every week students can complete a task for a candy bar.  The following are the activities completed so far:

Week of 8/18/8
Handbook:  Students completed a 100+ question≥test over the handbook.  The student with the highest pretest score won a free DVD rental.  Student could then correct their test using the handbook.  If a student scored 100%-85% on the corrected test, then he/she earned a pop and a candy bar.  If a student scored a 84%-70% on the corrected test, then he/she earned a candy bar.

Week of 8/25/8
School Song:  Students had to sing or say (from memory) the words to the school song.

Weeks of 9/1/8-9/8
Star Spangled Banner:  Students had to sing or say (from memory) the first verse of the Star Spangled Banner.

Week of 9/15
Beautiful Nebraska:  Students had to sing or say the first verse and refrain of the state song.

Week of 9/22
Pledge of Allegiance:  Students are to recite (from memory) the Pledge of Allegiance.

Week of 9/29
