GRADING SYSTEM
1. MAKE UP WORK
Since progress in this course depends in large measure on systematic practice and since tapes and many of the materials which are used daily cannot be checked out, all absences must be made up. This will have to be on your own time. Five points per day are given for attendance. Students who make up absences will receive these five pointsd. Students who do not make up missed class time will lose these points.
2. OUTSIDE READING REQUIREMENT
You must read three books per quarter. This requirement will be approximately one-thirs of your qrater grade. Most of your recreational reading will be done outside of class.
STEPS TO FOLLOW FOR OUTSIDE READING BOOKS:
A. Have all titles approved prior to reading. Bring the book you want to read, show it to your teacher and ask her to write the title down. You may not give a report on a book that has not been preapproved.
B. Read 30 minutes per day so that you can meet the book report due date.
C. Keep a main events chart while you read. A main events chart lists in chronological order the main events in a book. Write one complete sentence for each chapter.
D. After you have finished a book, bring your main events chart and the book to the teacher and give a 3-5 minute oral book report. This can be done any time before or on the due date.
E. Pay attention to the due dates posted for each book report. Absolutely no lates will be accepted. If you do not give your first report on or before the due date for the first book, you will receive no credit for that assignment. You will lose 10, 11 or 12 points for the first, second, third book report not given, respectfully.
3. GROUP INSTRUCTION
Tuesdays and Fridays are for group instruction. Though a variety of topics will be covered, the main emphasis will be on study skills. You will practice various study methods using the texts from your science and social studies classes. Group days must be recorded and evaluated on your weekly reporting (blue) sheet.
4. POINT SYSTEM
Attendance is worth 5 points per day. (25 points per week)
Daily Recordkeeping for each day's work.(25 points per week)
Week's Work(RATE/VOCAB/COMP/GROUP DAYS).(52 points per week)
Week's Total of Points (102 points)
This week's total plus group day assignments, vocabulary tests, and quizzes equal two-thirds of your quarter grade. The three outside books per quarter equal the other one-third.
