English 12 2003--2004 Grading System and Class Expections
SUPERIOR STUDENT (A)
A. Maintains a grade average of at least a 94.
B. Earns at least 20 independent points of which at least 8 are from video viewing.
C. Maintains a satisfactory attitude.
GOOD STUDENT (B)
A. Maintains a grade average of at least 86.
B. Earns at least 15 independent pointsof which at least 6 are from video viewing.
C. Maintains a satisfactory attitude.
AVERAGE STUDENT (C)
A. Maintains a grade average of at least 78.
B. Earns at least 10 independent points.
C. Maintains a satisfactory attitude
BELOW AVERAGE STUDENT (D)
A. Maintains a grade average of at least a 70.
B. Does no independent work.
C. Often displays a poor attitude.
FAILING STUDENT (F)
A. Maintains a grade average below 70.
B. Does no independent work.
C. Often displays a poor attitude.
ATTITUDE CRITERIA:
THE STUDENT
1. IS HONEST AND DOES HIS OWN WORK--NEVER CHEATS NOR HELPS OTHERS CHEAT. (COPYING ANOTHER STUDENT‚S PAPER, STUDY GUIDE, OR HOMEWORK MAY RESULT IN DOUBLE ZEROS FOR BOTH STUDENTS. PLAGIARIZING [COPYING A SOURCE WITHOUT GIVING DUE CREDIT] OR CHEATING ON TESTS AND QUIZZES ARE ALSO LIKELY TO MEAN DOUBLE ZEROS.)
2. PREPARES DAILY AND MEETS DEADLINES.
3. IS PROMPT TO CLASS AND ENTERS THE ROOM RELATIVELY QUIETLY AND IS READY TO WORK WHEN THE TARDY BELL RINGS.
4. IS NOT LOUD OR BOISTEROUS AND DOES NOT USE OFF-COLORED LANGUAGE.
5. BRINGS NECESSARY BOOKS AND MATERIALS TO CLASS.
6. IS COOPERATIVE AND RESPONDS WELL TO CRITICISM AND SUGGESTIONS.
7. IS COURTEOUS, RESPECTFUL, AND POSITIVE.
8. IS ATTENTIVE AND INVOLVED IN CLASS THROUGH DISCUSSION, LISTENING, NOTETAKING, AND PROPER DEMEANOR.
9. USES CLASS TIME WELL AND SELDOM NEEDS TO LEAVE CLASS TO GO TO LOCKER, RESTROOM, DRINKING FOUNTAIN, OR RUN ERRANDS.
10. TAKES THE INITIATIVE AND DOES NOT NEED TO BE PUSHED OR ASKED TO GET BUSY.
11. DOES NOT DISTURB OTHERS NOR DISRUPT CLASS.
12. HELPS KEEP THE ROOM NEAT AND DOES NOT ABUSE PROPERTY (BOOKS, DESKS, WALLS, ETC.)
13. MAKES A SPECIAL EFFORT TO SEE THE INSTRUCTOR WHEN HE DOES NOT UNDERSTAND AN ASSIGNMENT OR GETS LOW GRADES.
14. ATTENDS CLASS REGULARLY.
15. MAKES A SPECIAL EFFORT TO INFORM THE TEACHER OF UP-COMING ABSENCES.
16. MAKES A SPECIAL EFFORT TO BE PREPARED THE DAY AFTER AN ABSENCE, REGARDLESS OF THE REASON FOR MISSING.
17. DOES ALL MAKE-UP WORK PROMPTLY.
