About
- Approximately 100 new chapter books have been added and divided
between the two elementary sites. They are from third grade to 6th
grade reading level.
Classes are now taking their second quarter STAR reading tests to
determine their reading level for AR. We will do this at the end of
each quarter to track their progress and we will compare the results at
the end of the year. If parents would like to see their child's
results, please contact your child's classroom teacher.
We are now in the second quarter, and the students will be
celebrating their AR goals that have been met with a pumpkin painting
party and hayrack rides through the park. I am amazed at the number of
books the kids check out, and am proud that they are reaching their
goals! Keep up the good work!!!
The Scholastic Book
Fair will be coming during Parent Teacher Conferences. Preview flyers
will go home Monday and students will hopefully get an opportunity to
preview the books before the fair.
I have exciting
news to share! We now have access to over 100,000 AR tests at both
elementary sites! We will soon have access to AR tests that go along
with our reading series, and also the leveled readers that we have in
our classrooms! The best part about this is that when new AR tests are
created by Renaissance Learning, we will have access to them too. That
means we don't have to wait until a test is purchased to enjoy reading
the book and taking a test. Woo Hoo!!!
Along with all of the AR tests we now have available, we also
have access to STAR Reading. STAR Reading allows the classroom teachers
to test each student for their current reading level and then students
can choose books that match their reading level.
More
good news to share is that a friend of my sister's, that is a librarian
in Texas, has donated more than 300 gently used books for our students.
They are books that they may have had duplicates, or they were not
being checked out, or may be more than 5 years old. Many of the books
are in new condition!!! I will be adding these books to the system, as
time allows me to do so, and I will divide them between the two sites.
