Lady Flyers Win Season Opener
By: Jared M. Heinen
Thursday, August 30th the
Humphrey St. Francis Lady Flyers Volleyball team traveled to Howells to
take on Cornhusker Conference rivals the Howells Bobcats.
Humphrey St. Francis would go on to win the game in four sets,
but it was a very challengeing task to accomplish. It was slow going
for the Lady Flyers as they started off by losing the first set 16-25.
Sheryl Hemmer who finished the game with three digs, six points, and a
100% serving percentage said, "we started the game off really slow, but
after the first set we regrouped and beat a very good Howells team."
After losing the first set the Lady Flyers came back looking much
better. They won the second set 26-24. The third set was very similar
as it went back and forth. It ended up 27-25. The final set of the
evening went much better for St. Francis as they took control early and
won the set 25-15. The team looked really good at times and at others
you could see that there would be room for improvement. Susan Rollman a
junior for the Lady Flyers said," we needed to serve receive better so
the setter could set it up to a hitter." Susan finished with nine
kills, seven digs, and two points.
This was a great way to begin the season for the Lady Flyers, and they
hope to carry that momentum to this week where they will face a class C
powerhouse as the Norfolk Catholic Lady Knights come to town on
Tuesday, September 4th.
