Flyers Fall Short

             On September 21, the Flyers of Humphrey St. Francis took on their opponent High Plains Community at the Ed Foltz Complex in Humphrey at 7:00. The Flyers were unable to get the win as the Storm won 50-20.

            The game started with the Storm driving the ball into Flyer territory and looked as if they were going to score but a Storm fumble was recovered by the Flyers. The Flyers weren‚t really able to get anything going and were forced to punt. The Storm then made a drive for the first touchdown, ending on a 12 yd. run. The 2 point play failed making the score 6-0 High Plains.

            The Flyers got the ball back again but this drive was unsuccessful when the Storm sacked senior Randy Foltz in the end zone for a safety. Making the score 8-0.

            The Flyers had to kick the ball yet again to the Storm. They made a drive down the field and scored on the Flyers making the score 14-0 after a failed 2 point conversion.

            The first quarter ended with the Flyers having the ball. They continued to drive the ball until Foltz threw a 27 yard touchdown pass to junior Jameson Werner. The 2 point conversion failed.

            The Storm responded with a drive that ended in a 9 yd. touchdown run. The 2 point play was good making the score 22-6.

            Then the Flyers were unable to get anything on offense and were forced to punt. This punt set up another Storm touchdown. The 2 point play was good making the score now 30-6 to end the half.

            The Flyers came out of the half with a little more fire though, for their first drive of the half ended in a 61 yard touchdown pass by Randy Foltz to senior Miles Korus.  „I felt that we needed a big play and a score," said Korus, "so I did my best on that play and we got just that.‰ The 2 point conversion failed making the score 30-12.

             The Storm responded with a touchdown driving series with a 22 yard touchdown run. The 2 point play failed. The score now was 36-12.

            The Flyers got the ball back but an interception made that drive come to an end. The next play the Storm ran the ball 10 yards for another touchdown. The 2 point conversion was successful, making the score now 44-12 all High Plains.

            The Flyers next drive also resulted in an interception that was ran in for a touchdown putting the score at 50-12 after the 2 point play failed.

            The quarter ended and the Flyers had the ball. This time the drive was success as the Flyers took the ball the length of the field and scored on a 7 yard run by junior Derek Classen. The 2 point conversion was good with a pass from Derek Classen to senior Cole Classen. This was the final score of the game resulting in a 50-20 loss for the Flyers. Cole Classen said, „It was a tough loss but now we have to look on to Shelby.‰

            On defense the Flyers were led by seniors Cole Classen and Jake McPhillips who both had 20 tackles each.

             The Flyers will face Shelby for their homecoming game on Saturday, September 29th at the Ed Foltz Complex in Humphrey at 2:00p.m.
