In the spring of 2004, the Nebraska State Department of Education announced the first round recipients of the Reading First Grants. Among those were Lakeview Community Schools' Sunrise Elementary School. Members of the Sunrise Reading First Team are:

Sunrise uses Open Court Reading and Reading Mastery for our core reading programs. Interventions used at Sunrise are Early Interventions in Reading, Language for Learning, Language for Thinking, Reasoning and Writing, Sound Partners, Sound Partners Plus, Stepping Stones, and Read Naturally.
