School Rules

The following rules have been established and approved by the Board of Education of the Former District #9 School, now known as Sunrise Elementary School, for use in the school district and at all school-sponsored events. Compliance with the following standards of conduct is mandatory. These rules may be changed during the school year by the Board of Education, and students and parents/guardians will be informed if and when there are any changes.

Sunrise Elementary School has five all-school rules for you to remember. In order to make it easier for you to follow the rules, we have explained how you can benefit from following them by stating a rationale after each rule. Read these rules and rationales carefully and then make every effort to follow them. These rules are also posted in each classroom.

1. Respect the rights, space, safety, well-being, and property of others.

Rationale: If you respect others' rights and show concern for their property, they may be more likely to treat you the same way.

2. Accept the consequennces of your choices--this is how we all learn.

Rationale: If you accept the consequences of your choices, you are less likely to make the same mistake twice.

3. Respect the "right" of teachers to teach and of students to learn.

Rationale: If you allow teachers to teach and students to learn, we will create a positive learning climate for all members of our school community.

4. Give your best effort to academic work, following rules and procedures, and getting along with others.

Rationale:If you give your best effort to academic work, following rules and procedures, and getting along with others, you are more likely to feel successful in school.

5. Attempt to exhibit the following:
  • Use appropritate language and voice tone.
  • Listen to others.
  • Be kind to others.
  • Avoid physical, verbal, and sexual harassment of others.
  • Dress appropriately so as not to disrupt learning.
  • Be receptive to other student's needs.
  • Help others -- especially younger students.

Rationale: If you behave this way to others, they are more likely to behave the same way to you.

Students who break school rules will be assigned natural and logical consequences as a result of their misbehavior.

Classroom Rules

Teachers may establish reasonable rules in their classrooms to assist them in providing a good environment for learning. Students are to follow these rules and may be disciplined for not following them.
