12th English Curriculum

Grammar: We will do grammar exercises on common grammatical errors. I will also address problems that we need to cover in your writing

Reading: Senior English covers world and British literature. Well will focus on British literature for the most part. We will read from the anthology as well as four novels as a class, including the following: And Then There Were None (Agatha Chrisite), The Heart of Darkness (Joseph Conrad), Hamlet (William Shakespeare), and Watership Down (Richard Adams). We will also do a unit on Arthurian legend.

Vocabulary: Mondays will be vocabulary day. You will look up vocabulary words individually then present the words to the class. Contextual vocabulary sentences will be due on Wednesday. You will have a vocabulary quiz on the last day of the week.

Writing: We will be writing a 10-12 page research paper during the course of the semester. The biggest part of this grade is on the research and writing process. You will have lots of time to write the paper, so my advice to you is to use it wisely. The tests over the reading units are essay tests, so you will do a number of in-class writings as well. Finally, there will be numerous other writing assignments interspersed throughout the semester, so be prepared to write, write, write!
