Introduction

The time period between the 1840’s and 1860 saw many radical events that all led to the same effect: the Civil War. What an exciting time it must have been for the newspaper reporters of the day. Many of the headlines during that era have gone on to become major parts of history books.

To truly understand the Civil War, and to truly understand the United States of America, people need to know the causes of the war and the events that led to it. Facilitating such an understanding was the duty of the reporters during that era. It is now your duty.
